Windy Peak Supply is an American outdoor supply company. We produce 3D printed products that help the modern outdoor enthusiast enjoy their experiences in the woods. We use materials made in the U.S. and produce everything by hand. Family owned and operated we will never sell out or leave you hanging. We run on honesty and transparency. We would love to work with you and/or supply you with some “goods for the woods”
Our Story
As a lifelong outdoorsman I’ve always loved the wilderness, as I believe it is where we all truly belong. Our goal at Windy Peak Supply is to make your outdoor experiences as enjoyable as possible and also allow you to preserve the fruits of all your hard work for years to come.
My History and how I got into designing and manufacturing outdoor goods
Long forgotten
As an outdoorsman myself I’ve tried just about every clothing brand that is on the market. That industry has done a decent job in my opinion of keeping up with innovation. However I feel like the common outdoorsman has been left behind by big box and the corporate monster that the outdoor product industry has become. Here at Windy Peak Supply our commitment to you is, that we won’t sell out for profits and we won’t stop innovating new and useful things for ALL outdoor enthusiasts. Our focus will be on the forgotten outdoorsman/woman that partake in the new and upcoming outdoor trends that big box isn’t interested in. Like shed hunting once was… I cannot believe to this day there is not more gear that is tailored to the shed hunter. We hope to change that and not leave any outdoors-people out to dry.
My background
I was born and raised in central Washington where I grew up hunting and fishing. Outdoor opportunities were abundant as the valley that raised me was flourishing with cutthroats and ungulates. We could go out 10 minutes from home with a fishing rod and a bicycle and fill a stringer. Or load up and drive 10 minutes to find 8 antlers a day in the local winter ranges. In fact we had to explain, frequently, I might add, that we weren’t searching for “buildings” when we told them we were going “shed hunting”. People just couldn’t believe that a deers antlers fell off every year… “Well what do you do with all of them?” was a frequent question to which I would respond “well look at them” trying to explain the obsession. Wearing Nike sneakers and sweat pants I scoured the hills searching for that little rush of adrenaline that comes from that second you make the realization you just found an antler. A feeling I can honestly say I still long for 30 years later.
Work experience
Starting my work career building custom homes as a carpenter turned Superintendent, I found the construction industry to be very cutthroat. Not the kind I could toss a fly at unfortunately… So I got into the operating side, running equipment. Hoping to escape the hectic atmosphere that was building custom homes for the wealthy elite. I traded the hammer and pen for joysticks. Starting first at Snoqualmie pass running snowcat, then converting those skills of pushing snow to pushing dirt.
Finding a home in the seat of an earthmover was not something I expected. Not only was I a natural, but it brought me a livable income that enabled me to start a family. On top of that, I really enjoyed it as it brought me purpose, and allowed me to work in the “woods” as we did a lot of road building for the loggers as well as lots of residential construction and site clearing. From carpenter/operator to designer???
Had everything gone to plan I would likely be sitting in an excavator seat instead of this office chair today. Likely, doing this as a hobby. However the Universe has its own plan that I get little sway in. While working on a pipe job where we were 13 feet below ground in a trench box with (2) 6″ submersible pumps to keep the 3.5 feet of water out. I drew the job of top hand and backfill. Basically moving pumps and generators around and keeping the materials flowing in order to keep the job-site rolling ahead. Due to the fact that we were so deep and inside a steel box there was a communication gap that was completely stalling progress. There were 2 (12) hour days where we stuck 2 sticks of pipe. Being in the position I was and an operator, I could see the shortcomings of the main guy in the trench. So I volunteered to take his job in order to improve our odds of completing the job on time. A decision I will probably ponder for the rest of my life. My job was simple, communicate with the topside operators and bed the newly installed sewer pipe so that it doesn’t settle and lose the carefully calculated slope needed to pass inspection. After the first couple of days we were quickly doing 18-19 sticks of pipe a day. Dramatically improving production just through better communication and effort. Things were going smoothly until my knee started aching and swelling. I toughed it out for another week before my knee finally ballooned up so much that I could barely get my work pants over it. Long story short, well long story a little shorter… I sheared the cartlidge off the end of my femur and have a bone on bone knee joint. The Drs believe it was due to the repetitive motion of the shoveling. This injury ended up going through the LNI system, which is where I sit today. Having had 2 surgeries and looking at a 3rd I thought why not me? Why not Now?
So I started learning design on Youtube and invested in a 3d printer with the intention of bringing some of my ideas to life. Having put together many jobs according to plan Ive realized over the years that a lot of designers/engineers hardly have ANY real world experience. Well I have nothing but real world experience which in my opinion is far superior to any paper you might get from attending a University. My mission is to use my 25+ years of field experience as a builder and outdoorsman to bring you products that will enhance your outdoor experiences.
